How the calculation works
- Cover shortfall (percentage points) = max(0, required cover − observed intended cover).
- Bare-patch exceedance (m²) = max(0, observed largest connected patch − allowed largest patch).
- Observation time (minutes) = planned locations × routine visits × entered minutes per location.
- Travel time (minutes) = routine visits × entered travel minutes per visit.
- Total planned effort (minutes) = observation time + travel time.
- Total planned effort (hours) = total minutes ÷ 60.
What the result assumes
- Observed cover and bare-patch values are supplied field observations under an agreed method; defaults do not constitute an inspection.
- Cover criterion must be supplied by the project; the initial zero is deliberately unestablished.
- The entered maximum connected patch is a separate criterion. Zero is a strict no-bare-patch criterion, not a universal recommendation.
- Five locations, three visits and five minutes per location are editable hypothetical workload assumptions, not a sampling design or required inspection frequency.
- The model compares two entered numbers with two entered criteria. Passing these comparisons does not prove representativeness, establishment, root strength, correct composition, erosion protection, weed compliance or contract acceptance.
- Manual checks remain necessary for intended species, unwanted plants, rooting, traffic suitability, runoff, damaged protection and sampling limitations.
- Add mandatory and event-based inspections, reporting, specialist review and repair effort outside the simple routine-visit arithmetic. Follow the applicable project and authority requirements.
Check before using the result
- Enter the actual written cover and bare-patch criteria. The starting values do not establish an acceptance standard.
- Cover and patch comparisons are separate numerical checks. Field assessment and authorized acceptance remain separate.
- Use whole numbers of observation locations and review visits. Confirm the actual inspection process and any event-based reviews.
Manual checks for the actual project
- Identify intended vegetation and unknown or unwanted plants.
- Confirm sampling representativeness and field method.
- Review rooting and suitability for planned traffic.
- Inspect runoff, exposed connected areas and surface protection.
- Record required actions, responsible person and authorized project review.
Include all observations, entered criteria, visit assumptions, comparison gaps, effort results, formulas and limitations in the editable intake brief. Invite the user to attach the criterion source, observation method, location map, photos, unresolved manual checks and project notes.
