Multi-zone area workbook
Keep measured rectangles, excluded areas and the total treatment footprint in one record.
Calculation basis
For each zone: length × width − excluded area. Total net area is the sum of four independent, non-overlapping zones.
Rectangular plan areas only. Do not overlap zones. Irregular boundaries, slope surface area, uncertainty and actual field measurements need separate review.
Build the takeoff from separate zones
Break the included footprint into rectangles that do not overlap. Give each rectangle an identity on your sketch before entering its dimensions. Four zones are available here; a blank optional zone contributes zero. Within each zone, enter only exclusions that actually lie inside it. A bed spanning two rectangles should be divided between them or treated with a different takeoff method.
For an illustrative measurement record, a 20m by 10m rectangle with 30m² of exclusions contributes 170m². A separate 5m by 4m rectangle with 2m² excluded contributes 18m². The combined net footprint is 188m². These are arithmetic examples, not measurements of your site.
Check what the dimensions represent
The workbook uses rectangular plan measurements. It does not survey a boundary or convert a sloping face into its actual surface area. State the measurement basis in the project specification before using an area to calculate a material quantity. Keep a dated sketch and the source of every dimension with the result.
Review exclusions with the person defining the scope
Paths, beds, retained vegetation and areas awaiting other work may need exclusion. Some areas may instead require a different treatment, which should be recorded separately. The workbook rejects an exclusion larger than its zone and a total net area of zero. Those checks prevent impossible arithmetic; they do not confirm that the mapped scope is correct.
Carry the record forward
The editable enquiry brief includes every entered dimension and exclusion, each zone result and the total. Add your sketch, measurement uncertainty and any irregular portions in your own notes. Someone reviewing the scope should be able to find the zones on the ground and understand how the final quantity was assembled.
